Announcing the Kislak Family Foundation Fellowships, 2026
The American Friends of Imago Mundi (AFIM) has received a generous grant from the Kislak Family Foundation that will provide fellowships of $2000 (US) to five participants in the 31st International Conference in the History of Cartography in Prague/Brno to defray the costs of participation in the conference, including travel, lodging, food, and registration. The program is intended to encourage in-person conference participation by scholars with limited institutional and personal resources for whom conference-related expenses will pose a substantial financial burden.
Persons whose presentations have been accepted for inclusion in the conference’s academic program will be eligible to apply for these Kislak Family Foundation Fellowships after they have received word of the acceptance of their presentation by the ICHC 2026 Selection Committee, early in 2026. The application form for the Fellowships may be found on the official website of the conference: ichc2026.org. The application must be submitted electronically within the submission and registration system (accessible from the conference website) by March 15, 2026, to be considered.
A Fellowship Committee convened by AFIM and the conference organizers will select the five Kislak Family Foundation Fellowship awardees based entirely on their demonstrated need for financial support, without reference to the merits of their contributions to the program, already adjudged by the ICHC 2026 Selection Committee. The selection committee will consider the following factors, which the applicant shall detail on the application form:
- An explanation of the limitations on the applicant’s ability to finance their attendance at the conference with their existing resources.
- An accounting of the applicant’s existing sources of income, including salaries, stipends, grants, employer or other subsidies, and any other sources that can be applied towards participation in the conference.
- Estimated costs of travel to the conference, of registration for the conference, and of food and lodging during the conference.
Successful applicants will be notified of their selection by mid-April 2026. The award funds will be disbursed to the successful applicants upon their arrival at the conference. For further details about the application process information please contact: board.afim@gmail.com
